ABOUT PARAMEDICAL
Paramedical courses are an integral part of Health care system. This is the infrastructure which needs to be strengthened for the proper diagnosis & treatment of patients. There was a time when doctors only were doing the clinical lab tests, taking X – ray & doing everything connected with patients. Later on they started training people working under them for such Jobs. But the problem was in maintaining Quality of training & uniformity & standardizing the training. This lead to the concept of Paramedical courses. As this training pertains to all branches of medicine, it is very appropriate to run the course under the supervision & guidance of Doctors(M.B.B.S).
This Paramedical course and training initially started in medical colleges. Training was given under different departments of medicine. The number of such trained personnel was not enough to cater to the growing number of hospitals & Nursing homes. This course was run as Job Oriented courses. Then in this decade “ Paramedical Board “ was created by the Government in 1997. Guide lines were set to impart this education cum training by colleges which are known as Paramedical colleges. “The Paramedical board” recognized by Government of Karnataka gives affiliation to colleges which run such courses. These colleges have to follow the guide lines to maintain the standards & quality of education, uniform syllabus.
Here I would like to give some clarifications, Diagnosis, and Treatment of a disease depends not only on the doctors but also on the tests or Investigations done to confirm the diagnosis. Treatment is planned depending on these reports. Outcome of treatment can also be judged by Laboratory Tests. Here we doctors, Technician work like a “Team” everybody should work with same interest, commitment and responsibility Negligence anywhere may cost the life of a patient. Therefore paramedical or technicians courses is not a “Mere job” but a very responsible service oriented Job. No compromise can be made as regards the training & teaching of this Paramedical Force.
