from Nursing as it was practiced a few decades
ago; and it takes a vivid imagination to envision
how the nursing profession will change as well
as we move forward into the 21st century. To
comprehend present day nursing and at the same
time prepare for the future, one must understand
not only past events but also contemporary nursing
practice and the sociological factors affecting
it.
There are many definitions
and descriptions of nursing, but the essence
to nursing is: Caring for and Caring about
people As holistic beings in matters related
to health promotion, health maintenance, health
restoration and the end of life.
A desired goal of nursing is professionalism,
which necessitates specialized education; a
unique body of knowledge, including specific
skills and abilities; autonomous regulation
and a code of ethics.
The future of Nursing
promises dynamic changes and continual challenge
with exciting health care reform in progress
and technologies as yet undreamt on the horizon.
Prospects:
Diploma nurses can pursue
with their studies by taking up the bachelor’s
degree on acquiring 2 years of clinical experience.
Graduate nurses can
pursue with Post Graduate studies, and doctoral
programmes.
Nurses wanting to go abroad should pass their
IELTS, CGFNS exams, RN/RM exams.
An in-service education programme is administered
in every institution. It is designed to upgrade
the knowledge or skills of employees at various
levels.
Staff credentialing – is the
process of determining and maintaining competence
in nursing. As the scope of nursing practice
broadens, so must the knowledge base for even

Eligibility
Criteria For Admission
Candidate should have passed the II years Preuniversity
examination of Karnataka or an equivalent examination
as prescribed by the Rajiv Gandhi University
of Health Sciences, with Science subjects/physics,
chemistry and biology and scored at least 45%
in the Science subjects (40% of candidates belonging
to SC/ST)
Dress Code
The student should wear
uniform prescribed during the clinical, labs
and hospital visits.
Teaching Methodology
Professors with vast
teaching and hospital experience handle the
classes. The teaching methodology is interactive
with students’ participation. The sessions
include group discussion, seminars, visits to
hospitals etc. Audio visual Aids for classroom
sessions are facilitated. Workshop and guest
lectures are also arranged along with academics.
Placements
Students are provided placement assistance to
work in major hi-tech hospitals. A separate
placement cell in the college help students
who are seeking placements.
Hostel
There is an exclusive
hostel within the campus for the nursing students.
Both Vegetarian and Non vegetarian food is provided
in the mess.

The course is affiliated
to the Rajiv Gandhi University of Hhealth Sciences
and recognised by the . The Government of Karnataka,
Karnataka Nursing Council & Indian Nursing
Council.This course is structured over 4 years.
The candidate shall undergo the course of instruction
on the following subjects.
Bachelor of Nursing Course
(Basic)
Eligibility for Admission:
A candidate seeking admission
should have:
1. Passed the two-year
Pre-University examination or equivalent as
recognized by Rajiv Gandhi University
Health Sciences, with science subjects,
viz, Physics, Chemistry and Biology.
2. Students of Vocational
Courses.: 10+2 vocational course of State Government
of Kerala with cognate subject
namely Domestic Nursing and Physics, Chemistry
and Biology as optional subjects, vide notification
No.UA/ELY-1/1999-2000 dated 11.08.2004.
3.Obtained at least
forty-five percent of the total marks in science
subjects of the qualifying examination
if belonging to a scheduled or a scheduled tribe,
should have obtained not less than forty percent
of the total marks in science subjects
of the qualifying examination.
4. Completed 17 years
of age at the time of admission or will complete
this age on or before 31st December
of the year of admission.
Objectives of study:
The Programme is designed:
To provide a balance of professional and general
education and to enable a student to become
a professional nurse practitioner who has self-direction
and is a responsible citizen.
Graduates of the programme are prepared for
beginning level positions in community and institutional
nursing service; and have the foundation for
continuing professional development and for
post-graduate study in nursing.
Through planned guided experience, students
are provided with opportunities to develop:
A broad concept of the fundamental principles
of nursing care based on sound knowledge and
satisfactory level of skill in providing care
to people of all ages in community or institutional
setting.
Understanding of the application of principles
from the physical, biological, social and behavioural
sciences for assessing health status. Ability
to investigate health care problems systematically.
Ability to work collaboratively
with members of allied disciplines towards attaining
optimum health for all members of society. Understanding
of principles of teaching and their application
in their work situation.
Understanding of fundamental
principles of administration and organization
of nursing services. Understanding of human
behaviour and an appreciation of effective interpersonal
relationship with individuals, families and

IV Attendance , Progress And
Conduct :
Each student must have
a certificate of satisfactory attendance, progress
and conduct from the Principal of the College
of Nursing to be eligible for appearing in the
University examination.
A minimum of 10% may be condoned by the Vice
Chancellor on the recommendation of the principal
based on the genuine nature of the case.
Internal Assessment
:
There shall be an internal
assessment which follows broadly the principles
enunciated by the University in each subject
for which 20% of the marks are set apart and
these will be added to the final marks in the
university examinations. There shall be a minimum
of two assignments and three periodical tests
in every subject each year to assess the progress
of the candidates. If a candidate fails in an
examination, his/her internal assessment shall
be assessed again if he/she is a regular student
for the second year attempt only, and marks,
whichever is higher, will be considered.
