Dr. Babu Manjasetty is a biophysicist, who does research in the fields of structural proteomics and bioinformatics. He received his Masters and Doctoral degree from Mysore University, India. His doctoral program was supported by a University Grants Commission (UGC) Research Fellowship. He became a recipient of a prestigious Alexander von Humboldt Research Fellowship in Germany. During his stay at several leading institutes / universities abroad (Germany, Canada and USA), he worked on a number of projects of biomedical and biotechnological importance including, gankyrin, an oncoprotein linked to liver cancer, bifunctional aldolase-dehydrogenase, which sequesters a reactive and volatile intermediate (DmpFG), and Aortic Preferentially Expressed Protein-1 (APEG-1), which plays a key role in the growth and differentiation of arterial smooth muscle cells. His research results were published in several high impact factor journals including Proceedings of National Academy of Sciences, USA, and the work he carried out in Germany was selected for the BESSY Scientific Highlights and telecasted on the German Einstein Science Television Channel. He has in excess of 40 research articles, book chapters, reviews published in national and international journals, and books. Prior to joining the Research & Industry Incubation Center, Dayanandasagar Institutions, he was engaged in Synchrotron based Structural Proteomics research. He has provided mentorship to the interns under the Department of Energy - Science Undergraduate Laboratory Internship (SULI) program, Brookhaven National Laboratory, USA with specific interests in Macromolecular Crystallography and Biomedical Science. He has contributed to the National Institute of Health (NIH) P41 renewal grant application to the National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering (NIBIB). Briefly, he is an independent researcher with strong research expertise and leadership qualities, and the ability to think and act. Currently, he is setting up a World class Structural Proteomics Platform to foster a low cost and integrated approach to elucidate structure-function relationships of macromolecules of industrial interest.
